He was just 15 years and 35 days old when he became the youngest player ever to appear in the Argentinian first division with Club Atlético Independiente. He left for Spain in 2006, joining Atlético Madrid, where the legend was born, winning the Golden Boy award individually and the Europa League (2009/10) and European Super Cup (2010/11) with the team.

But he truly became a superstar at Manchester City. In ten years at the Etihad Stadium he became the darling of the sky blues, setting a new goalscoring record for the club and also for a foreigner in the English top flight.

On the 15th december 2021, he announces his premature retirement from professional football.He scored his last goal at Camp Nou against Real Madrid.
